Product Description
Glycine, an amino acid found in proteins (especially collagen), has multiple biochemical functions throughout the body. Glycine is the smallest of the 20 amino acids that are found in proteins, but it is extremely important for amino acid conjugation – a major hepatic detoxification pathway in the liver – and for the production of glutathione, DNA, and hemoglobin.
In addition, glycine aids in joint and cartilage repair and protection, helps to support healthy neurological functioning, provides an important component for healthy REM and delta sleep patterns, and promotes a healthy circadian rhythm.
Cartilage repair and protection:
Joints are made primarily of collagen. In the collagen matrix, glycine occupies every third position. Without adequate glycine, the body cannot make collagen for joint repair and function
Healthy neurological function:
Glycine is a major inhibitory transmitter in the central nervous system, exerting postsynaptic inhibition that is important for control of excitability of motor neurons, auditory processing, pain transmission, and other functions.
Healthy REM and Delta sleep
Studies show that 3 grams of glycine at bedtime can improve sleep quality, shorten sleep latency, and lessen daytime sleepiness in healthy adults.
Glycine is a colorless and sweet-tasting crystalline that can be used to sweeten drinks or powdered supplements without altering blood glucose levels.
